Various Ways to Relieve Tonsitis

Management of tonsillitis depends on the cause. Tonsillitis is characterized by symptoms such as sore throat, difficulty swallowing, fever, and enlarged and reddish tonsils. If there are no other conditions, tonsillitis usually will heal itself after 3-4 days. To relieve complaints and symptoms of tonsillitis, you can do the following methods:

1. Gargle with salt water

Gargling with salt water can relieve sore throat in tonsillitis. You can mix ½ teaspoon of salt with ½ cup (120 ml) of warm water, as a mouthwash.

2. Consumption of soft or cold food

When experiencing tonsillitis, you are advised to eat soft or cold foods, such as ice cream, pudding, juice, yogurt, and smoothies. If possible, you can also crush ice cubes or lozenges.

3. Install the humidifier

If the air condition in the room is dry, use a humidifier. This tool will make the air more humid, and can eliminate the virus that causes tonsillitis. Humid air can help soothe sore throats and discomfort in the throat.

4. Take pain medication

Another way you can do to treat tonsillitis is to take over-the-counter pain relievers, such as paracetamol. But before taking pain medication, first read the dosage and rules of use. In addition to the four ways above, drinking enough water, plenty of rest, not smoking, and avoiding cigarette smoke will also help reduce complaints due to tonsillitis. But if inflammation of the tonsils occurs protracted, getting worse, accompanied by fever, causing difficulty swallowing and tightness, or disrupt sleep, you need to see a doctor immediately.
